We're at it again! Changes have been made to the way in which we present you with the lock-in sites on Top9. We get a lot of positive feedback on these, and want to continue with our "safe and easy surfing" campaign. Now, instead of a red or green designation, they will simply be red . After all, a site is either hard to get out of or not. This makes it much simpler for surfers, rather then having to decifer which lock is worse than the other. Also, this should clear up the confusion for our "red and green" color blind friends as well. However, there will still be either the , for Netscape, or , for Internet Explorer, depending on which browser is most affected by the site.
Just remember, once you get in to them, it may be difficult or impossible to use your regular "back" button function to exit. TOP9.com is committed to easy surfing, and these sites present a potential trap. If it takes more than two clicks of your "back" button to get out, this symbol appears next to the URL. It's then up to you whether to enter the site or not.
The good news is that we have created a handy "Escaping the Lock-ins" tip page which offers several suggestions and strategies to easily out-maneuver the Lock-ins. It's really quite easy in many cases, but the sites listed here can be annoying nonetheless.
We'll update the Lock-in sites found within the web's top 10,000 overall sites each month. And if a site removes its impediments, it will be designated with an "Unlocked!" note for a month. Since our initial listings, several sites have already become surfer friendly! Keep checking back to see what sites are responding and trying to make the net an easier place to surf!
